Jean-Baptiste Scoriel is a Belgian artist born in Lambusart in 1883 and died in Tamines in 1956. He was a painter. Grew up in a family of Flemish miners who moved to the Ardennes. Artistic training at the Academy of Namur. Also received the advice and support of J.E. Blanche in Honfleur. Landscapes mainly realised. Initially, he was inspired by the banks of Sambre and worked in the luminist line of E. Claus. After the First World War, he revised his design and more respect for the lines and form was noticed in his works. He then painted the Basse Sambre and the barges on the river in a precise and powerfully constructed design. He then drew his subjects firmly in the dark and landscapes that initially breathed melancholy, agitation, loneliness, but over time nevertheless radiated more peace and optimism. Work at the Charleroi Museum, among others. Mentioned in BAS I, II and Two centuries of signatures by Belgian artists. Source: Piron.
