Italian school ‘Lake landscape, forest animated with characters' oil on canvas, 18th c.
Shepherd and flock of sheep, fishermen and boat, mountain and lake, distant village, blue sky, house and tower, this painting takes up the typical themes and decor of the 18th century.
The painting is preserved ‘as is', unrestored, with no holes, ideal for cleaning (we can take care of it on request).
It bears an old label on the back with the words ‘Italian school, inscription in three lines lower right corner', inscription to be discovered during a future cleaning.
Dimensions unframed: 46X60cm.
The Italian school of the 18th century refers to a group of painters active in Italy, heirs to the great traditions of the Renaissance and the Baroque. Spread across Rome, Venice, Naples and Bologna, these artists developed a variety of styles, from decorative Rococo to Neoclassicism inspired by Antiquity.
