Oil on canvas painting by Louis Bissinger/Berard Art Nouveau ville - Concarneau Louis BISSINGER was born in Lyon on April 24, 1899, a French artist and painter. Before turning to painting, he studied at the Lyon Conservatory of Music. He painted landscapes and still lifes in the Lyon region. He is also known as “Régis Bérard” or “L. Berard”, the name with which he signs his paintings. Unfortunately, he was arrested in 1943 as a member of the Resistance. He produced a large number of watercolor drawings, mainly showing views of the camp and its hellish conditions. He remained there until May 1945. On his return, he exhibited his work on the Buchenwald camp. In 1954, he was awarded the 1st Prix des Amis des Arts de Grenoble. Five years later, he was awarded the military medal by decree on December 29, 1959. Width: without frame 98.5 cm, with frame 116.5 cm Height: without frame 48.5 cm, with frame 65.5 cm Louis BISSINGER died in 1978 in Rillieux-la-Pape in the Rhône region. He left behind a large body of work.
