Pierre Letellier, landscape painting, oil on canvas

Pierre Letellier, a versatile French artist born in 1928, has practiced the arts of painting, lithography, engraving, illustration, photography and writing. Despite his international success, he does not enjoy the same recognition in France as he does abroad. A graduate of the École des Beaux-Arts in Caen under the tutelage of Louis-Édouard Garrido, he preferred to remain attached to his Caen roots, avoiding the Beaux-Arts in Paris. Pierre Letellier has exhibited in prestigious cities such as New York, Tokyo, Caracas, London, Brussels and Paris, but also chose to live outside France for some twenty years, settling in Switzerland before returning. His artistic style is distinctive, characterized by strong black and brown outlines, a subtle palette of muted but present colors. His subjects include the landscapes and people of Aquitaine, his native Normandy, the marshes of Sologne and Venetian landscapes. He also depicts nudes and dancers, enthusiastically capturing feminine beauty. Animal representations make up a large part of his work, exhibited notably at Chambord and the Maison de la Chasse in Paris. Pierre Letellier died on December 31, 2000.
