Magnificent oil on canvas by the painter Andé Hallet from Lake Kivu in the Belgian Congo. History:
ndré Hallet trained with Richard Heintz at the Liège Academy of Fine Arts from 1914 to 1918.
During his travels, he painted landscapes of southern France, Naples, Capri and Sicily. Works from this period are known as his European period.
He was sent to the Congo by the Belgian government in 1934 and forged a relationship with Mwami Mutara III Rudahigwa, (the Tutsi king of Rwanda) and painted a series of portraits of the king's family and court.
In 1947, André Hallet moved to Kisenyi, on the shores of Lake Kivu, with his wife, where he died in 1959.
His most representative paintings are those done in this former Belgian colony.
