Albert Raty is a Belgian painter born in Bouillon (province of Luxembourg) on ??August 17, 1889 and died in Vresse-sur-Semois on May 17, 1970 (province of Namur). Albert Raty was born deaf and mute. He left Bouillon and his native Ardenne to be sent at the age of five to the institute for the deaf and dumb in Brussels. It was there that he became aware of his artistic potential. He then continued his artistic studies at the Ernest Blanc-Garin Academy in Brussels and then at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris, with the painter Lucien Simon. After having painted in France (especially in Brittany and Aveyron), he returned to the Belgian Ardennes and more particularly to the Semois valley where he captured rural life and the Ardennes landscapes on his canvases. He was also a portrait painter.
