A chiaroscuro photograph by A. Taulé* depicting a table in an empty room on which rest a candle and a pyramid. Another open room can be glimpsed. Shadows are present on the threshold.
A very symbolic photograph.
Dimensions: 40 x 60 cm. Framed, under glass.
Antoni Taulé is a Catalan artist, born on August 25, 1945, in Sabadell, in the province of Barcelona. Although he has produced photographs—even performances in his early works—and designed theater sets, painting is the technique most frequently employed in his pictorial exploration, where architecture plays a significant role, but where "Shadow" is the true guiding thread. His work can be associated with the New Figuration movement, though Taulé does not explicitly claim this label. He lives and works primarily in Paris and the Balearic Islands.
Although he exhibited his paintings in Sabadell, Sitges and Barcelona from 1965 onwards, as an architect, Taulé simultaneously collaborated on the construction of the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
Light and shadow have become his greatest creative allies. Through them, Taulé creates scenes that play with the idea of presence and absence, desolate interiors illuminated by a sudden light that transforms the perception of space. This almost cinematic effect transports the viewer to a place between reality and fiction, where boundaries blur. It is no surprise that his work evokes the aesthetics of science fiction, with its depiction of hypnotic environments and visions that seem extracted from another plane of reality.
