Henri Privat-Livemont was a painter, draughtsman, decorator and poster artist from Brussels. He studied drawing at the St Josse-Ten-Noode Academy. Talented, he obtained a scholarship to study in Paris, where he worked on decorating public buildings. Returning to Brussels in 1891, where the Art Nouveau style was at its height, he produced posters, including the famous “absinthe Robette“ advertisement, interior decorations, sgraffiti on fine residences and cartoons for stained-glass windows. His style was highly appreciated and his work often compared with that of contemporaries such as Alphonse Mucha and Adolphe Crespin.
