Biography:
Alessandro Pianon (Venice 1936-1984) trained as an architect and designer at the Venice Institute of Architecture. Like many other Venetian artists, Pianon ventured into glass design when he joined the Murano-based Vetreria Vistosi in 1956. He began by designing the Vistosi logo, and went on to design a number of the company's much-loved light fittings and the famous Pulcini birds. After opening his own design studio in 1962, Pianon was approached by other Italian lighting companies, such as Lumenform (Venice), Caprotti (Monza) and Candle (Milan). It is not impossible that he collaborated with other artists such as Angelo Brotto for Esperia (creator of sculptural luminaires, lamps and wall sconces)....
Vistosi:
The company began with Guglielmo Vistosi in 1945 with a new glassworks in Murano under the management of Gino and Luciano Vistosi. The turning point came in 1960, with the idea of presenting a "signature" glass, linking production to the names of the most famous designers of the time: Gae Aulenti, Ettore Sottsass, Adalberto Dal Lago, Alessandro Pianon...
In 1989, the Moretti family from Murano took over the prestigious brand, giving life to Vetreria Vistosi, combining historic collaborations with the names of new designers, including Chiaramonte and Marin, Michele De Lucchi, Mauro Olivieri...
