Marcel Delmotte "Face" lithograph

A very beautiful lithograph by Marcel Delmotte depicting a woman's face next to a statue. The drawing is classical with a surrealist touch, perhaps inspired by the world of De Chirico, whom Delmotte greatly admired. It bears M.Delmotte 's pencil signature and a blind stamp with the printer's signature.

Marcel Delmotte is a Belgian painter, watercolourist, draftsman and sculptor.
His work was essentially realistic until around 1927. Three years later, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. In his artistic practice, he abandoned realism and moved towards a form of neo-classicism or neo-humanism, based on the exploration of composition and numbers. He was then influenced by early 20th-century expressionism before turning towards the symbolist style.

Marcel Delmotte received numerous awards and distinctions throughout his career. He was named a Knight of the Order of Leopold II in 1939. He received the silver medal for Belgian painting in 1960. That same year, he won the Richard Dupierreux First Prize for painting, followed by the Chapman First Prize in 1965.
