Marcel HOCQ (1933-2021): « le couple à la colombe »

Marcel Hocq is a Belgian expressionist self-taught painter, sculptor and ceramist, born in 1933. After gradually freeing himself from various artistic currents, his work ends up translating all the force of a renewed expressionism through solidly structured paintings whose sobriety of means accentuates the poetic climate. If he is inspired by childhood memories with nostalgia (fairgrounds, merry-go-rounds, circuses, engagements and weddings), if he is fond of animals (cats, goats and horses), the woman remains, nevertheless, the center of his concerns; he represents her with an impassive and serene face, only lit by large vague eyes that stare into the distance. His paintings exhibited both in Belgium and abroad can be found in private collections (Belgium, France, Canada, Netherlands, Germany, Spain) and public (collections of the Belgian State, the Walloon Region, the Province of Namur, towns of Kaprijke, Sambreville).
