Edgar SCAUFLAIRE (1893-1960) oil on panel 1952. Oil on panel signed and dedicated on the reverse - dated 1952. Dimensions: 63.5 x 45.5cm unframed - 67 x 48.5cm framed. The dedication is to Léon Loenig, assistant curator of the Musées des Beaux-Arts et de l'Art wallon de Liège from 1952 to 1958 and curator from 1958 to 1973. He is the son of Joseph Koenig, a painter and member, like Scauflaire, of the l'Atelier group. Scaufflaire is a painter, graphic artist and art critic from Liège. Nicknamed the painter-poet, he painted portraits, scenes of life and still lifes. A major representative of modern painting in Belgium, his works are appreciated for their inspiration from cubism, art deco and dreamlike expressionism.
