Jacques Dormont became deaf as a result of the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918. At the age of 15, he entered the Mons Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied drawing and painting with Louis Buisseret, and mural painting with Léon Navez. From 1946 until his retirement, he taught drawing and graphic art at the Berchem-Ste-Agathe Institute for the Deaf. His name appears among the 50 artists of Belgium in Jacques Collard's book1 (1986). He is notably the author of Joël2, with a preface by Franz Hellens. Some of his works have been purchased by the State, the Province of Hainaut, the Province of Brabant and the Commune of Dour.
