Oil on panel in an oak frame, by Auguste Ista (b. 19th c. - d. 20th c.), a landscape and wildlife painter, working here in the more classical repertoire of two red parrots, above a floral (peonies, chrysanthemums, etc.) and fruit (grapes, apples) ensemble . decorating stone columns, with a wooded background. Signed lower left, the date is illegible (1929 or 1920), and this work has probably been restored or retouched. This painting was certainly placed as an overmantel, either in a cabinet frame or on the top of a mantelpiece. Auguste Ista is little known, but several of his works have been sold at public auctions (between 450 and 1,300, depending on size).
