Auguste Donnay (1862 - 1921) was a Belgian painter and poster artist.
L'Estampe moderne was a French monthly publication. Between November 1895 and March 1896, this publication, a monthly monitor for amateurs and artists, appeared under the direction of engraver Loà¿s Delteil (1869-1927). Subsequently, between May 1897 and April 1899, a second monthly publication was launched under the direction of Ch. Masson and H. Piazza, containing four previously unpublished original prints.
Each etching was presented in a portfolio-format folder on which were printed the print references and a generally poetic text related to the motif. Each print, unsigned by hand, was affixed with a colorless dry authentication stamp depicting a disheveled child's head. The print run is 2,000 copies in the current edition and 150 copies on Japon.
There were a total of 24 issues, or 96 plates, not counting the 6 "bonus" plates for subscribers.
N.B.: One copy of this lithograph is in the collection of the British Museum (Inventory no. 1899,0120.160).
