Charles Levier “The Quay” oil painting on canvas, “thirty glorious years” style, 20th century

Painting by Charles LEVIER ( 1920-2003), fairly typical of the artist's work. It depicts a young lady on a quay (Paris?) in a 1930s coat and hat, holding a large bouquet of flowers. In the background, a cathedral.

The tones are soft, a symphony of pinks on one side, gray and blue on the other.

The signature is on the lower right; on the reverse, it is countersigned and titled.

Charles LEVIER (1920 - 2003) is a Franco-American. His first solo exhibition was at the Galerie Constantine in Lyon in 1949, followed by his American debut in Los Angeles in 1950. His work belongs to the figurative movement known as “Les Trente Glorieuses“. Inspired by Hollywood cinema, Charles Levier uses harmony and purity in his creations, which depict a delicate, luminous world, with subtle hues and carefully studied colors.
