Nino Giuffrida was an Italian painter born in Catania, Sicily, in 1924. At the age of 17, his passion for art and painting led him to attend the artistic high school in Catania. During this period, he painted frenetically everything around him, landscapes, seascapes and still lifes.
In 1946 he did his military service in Rome. He fell in admiration of the masterpieces in Roman museums, in particular the Vatican: Michelangelo, Raffaello, the Sistine Chapel and the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, and he developed an instinctive need to create. In 1949, he moved to Paris and painted the Parisian landscape, but his true vocation remained composition. In order to pursue this new path, he spent most of his time on the café terraces of Montmartre and Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where he drew portraits of customers in the restaurants. In 1961, in Cannes, he had the privilege of receiving a visit from Picasso, who said of him: Nowadays, you have to bring your own sensitivity and personality to any subject, and you manage to do that well, especially in your children's figures, which are what will remain of you. But I think your paintings will be recognised by your personal colours.
Enthusiasts and collectors of Nino Giuffrida's work can be found all over the world, in Japan, the United States, Sweden, Holland and Italy.
