Paul Alfred Marie Daxhelet, born November 25, 1905 in Liège, son of Paul Joseph Hubert Daxhelet and Louise Marie Céline Crahay, and died October 3, 1993 in Liège, was a Belgian painter and engraver. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Liège, Paul Daxhelet developed in the 1930s a body of work dominated by sporting themes, notably boxing, which the painter also practiced. After the Second World War, Daxhelet became the painter of colonial exoticism; he brings back from his many travels, to the Belgian Congo, then to India, the Far East, South America, Polynesia and Senegal, sketches and drawings from which he draws, in multiple variants, paintings where the color and movement.
