Magnificent large antique Longwy dish from the colonial period, decorated with 3 herons in medallions and a semi-polychrome background of polychrome flowers, on a blue background of cracked enamel.
Signed with large turn-of-the-century stamp.

Rare for its size and decoration. These richly colored enamels or engobes are treated with barbotine to give them a slight relief. They are applied with a brush to the base of the piece.
The rich, luxuriant motifs on a colored background, usually blue, depict a variety of flower seedlings (barbel, cornflower, forget-me-not, etc.). The elongated petals, buds and blossoming stems are shimmering in turquoise, pink, green, blue, wine, violet, etc., sometimes with gold highlights.
