Set of 6 modernist chairs stacked in beech wood and multiplex. Attributed to Roland Rainer, edition E&A POLLAK in Austria circa 1951. Average condition, ideally to be restored and varnished (restoration estimate possible on request). In the style of the easy armchair by Pierre Jeanneret. Biography: Roland Rainer decides to become an architect at the age. 18 years old. He studied at the Technical University of Vienna, his thesis was on Karlsplatz in Vienna. He was then called to work in several universities: the Technical University of Berlin, the Technical University of Brunswick, the Technion and the Technical University of Munich. In 1953 Rainer became professor for housing, urban planning and land use planning at the University of Hanover. In 1954 he became professor of structural engineering at the Technical University of Graz, which forced him to commute between Graz and Hanover. From 1956 to 1962, he produced one of his most important works in. Vienna, the Wiener Stadthalle. In. 1958, he is responsible for drawing up the zoning plans by the Vienna City Council. In 1967 he participated in the international competition for the design of the urban plan of the district of Bratislava - Petrzalka in Slovakia. In 1987 Rainer was president of the Austrian Decorative Arts Curia of Science and Art. He was also a constant critic of environmental destruction and bad construction. His works are currently highly sought after and collected.
