Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969) was a pioneering German-American architect known for his minimalist and modernist designs. He was a major figure in the Bauhaus movement and is famous for phrases such as "less is more" and "God is in the details". Mies van der Rohe's iconic buildings, such as the Barcelona Pavilion and the Seagram Building in New York, are characterised by clean lines, open spaces and the innovative use of materials such as steel and glass. His influence on modern architecture is profound, and his legacy continues to inspire architects and designers around the world.
Director of the Bauhaus from 1930 to 1933 (Josef Albers, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee).
An emblematic figure of modernist architecture, he collaborated with several artists and influential figures throughout his career: Peter Behrens, Le Corbusier, Walter Gropius, Lilly Reich, Philip Johnson, Serge Chermayeff, Herbert Greenwald...
These collaborations played a crucial role in the development and spread of modernism in architecture.
