GEORGES MATHIAS for MAHO, Table lamp, Hollywood regency, ca 1970

Table lamp designed by Georges Mathias for MAHO Design in the 1970s. This Hollywood Regency-style model combines geometric lines inspired by Art Deco with oriental touches.

Made from black polycarbonate and gilded brass, it evokes Chinese lacquer and bronze. The decoration depicts a lakeside landscape with a swan and its two young.

In excellent condition, this lamp is fully functional. It uses E23 bulbs, which are compatible with LED models.

Biography:

Georges Mathias began his career as an industrial designer at Philips Design, where he honed his skills. He went on to head the design department at Toshiba, before joining Sony, where he oversaw industrial design activities for Europe. In 1984, he decided to go freelance and set up Georges Mathias Design, a studio that worked with prestigious brands such as Renault, Hermès and Louis Vuitton. At the same time, he became involved in passing on his knowledge by teaching at the école Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI) in Paris. Fascinated by the balance between form and function, he favours refined aesthetics and practical efficiency. His designs have won him several major awards: the Prix de la Ville de Paris in 1983, recognition from the Observeur du Design in 1998, and the Prix du Design de la région Île-de-France in 2003.

Although he retired in 2013, Georges Mathias' influence remains deeply rooted in the world of design, where his work continues to be admired and studied.
