Cherrier et Besnus

A wonderful 1925-1930 art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze. The chandelier was made by the Paris France based company in bronze lighting fixtures Cherrier et Besnus. In 1926 monsieur E.Cherrier and monsieur Besnus took over the company of René Massin at 36 rue Amelot street. Massin produced bronze lighting in a neo classical and art nouveau style. Cherrier et Besnus continued producing the Massin product as well as introduced new designs in art deco style. The art deco lamps of Cherrier & Besnus are well made items of excellent quality. The bronze parts of their fixtures are often stamped with the foundery innitials RM (for René Massin).

The chandelier on offer was made using shades in clear frosted moulded-pressed glass by Hanots, like Verlys one of the brands of the large Holophane glass factories. The three side shades are signed Verreries des Hanots France. The large bowl is a model made by Hanots but like many of their models this one is always unsigned. The chandelier is in excellent condition. I have renickeled and patinated the mounting. All shades are in very good condition. Glasses made by verreries des Hanots often show irregularities like very thin hairlines due to the production proces. The lamp comes rewired and holds european sockets. For the US I will wire it with American base ones. The chandelier has a drop of 90 cm (35-1/2). And it is about 72 cm wide (28-3/8). For transport I will have to demount the fixture and of coarse I will add a clear manual how to mount it.

The chandelier can be shipped by priority mail. Safely packed in several parcels and fully insured. A pick up in Rotterdam is possible as well.
