EZAN-Jean Gauthier
A very large 1930-1935 French art deco uplight chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze holding six beautiful opalescent Ezan cups. Opalescent moulded-pressed semi-crystal shades became in fashion in the mid 30ies. With beautiful tones of milky blue or warm amber depending weather light falls on it or shines through.
The model shades of this chandelier do not exist signed. The six make a wonderful match with the luxerious heavy nickel on bronze or solid brass fixture. The chandelier is in excellent condition. The mounting has been replated. The chandelier has a height of about 73 cm (28-3/4) and is 90 cm wide (35-1/2). The shades are 22.5 cm in diameter. They are thick and heavy. The chandelier is rewired. It holds six E14 sockets. For the USA I will place american candelabra base ones.
Given the size of the fixture it can only be shipped dismantled. I will add clear instructions how to mount it again.
The chandelier will be shipped by priority mail. Safely packed and fully insured. Free shipping offered for Belgium France Holland or Germany. A pick up in Rotterdam is possible as well.
Jean Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first worldwar Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J.Gauthier based on the streetname of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
