Jean Gauthier
A stunning 1930-1935 French art deco chandelier in nickel plated solid brass or bronze holding three large opalescent Ezan shades. Opalescent moulded-pressed semi-crystal shades became in fashion in the mid 30s. With beautiful tones of milky blue or warm amber depending weather light falls on it or shines through. The model shades of this chandelier do not exist signed. Petitot, as well as other manufacturers of high quality art deco lighting, made several model chandeliers using these shades. The chandelier is in excellent condition. The fixture has been replated and patinated. It has a height of 72 cm (28-3/8) and is 59cm wide. The shades are 15,2 cm high and wings included have a diameter of 21 cm. They are thick and heavy. 1,37 kilo per shade. The chandelier is rewired. It holds three E14 sockets so you can use our normal electrical bulbs for it. For the USA I will place American candelabra base ones.
The chandelier will be shipped by priority mail. Safely packed and fully insured. Free shipping offered for Belgium France Holland or Germany. A pick up in Rotterdam is possible as well.
Jean-Baptiste Gauthier had his first workshop at 12-14 rue Jean Robert in Paris and later expended with factories in the town of Ezanville. In the early days just after the first worldwar Gauthier made cameo shades that were sometimes signed Gauthier. The plants in Ezanville were opened for the production of art deco glassware in moulded-pressed glass. Many art deco models are unsigned. Some are signed EJG for Etablissements Jean Gauthier. Others are signed J.Robert pseudonym for J.Gauthier based on the streetname of the first workshop. In the 30s Gauthier started a line of shades done in opalescent semi-crystal, mainly cups. Some models are unsigned. Others are signed EZAN France, signature for Gauthier based on the city of the second plant.
