Description Very beautiful small antique marble sculpture, finely worked, representing a divine figure identified as Zeus-Serapis or possibly Aesculapius.
The divinity with hair falling in loose curls framing the face, with a curly beard and double drilled pupils, small attachment hole at the top of the head.
The work demonstrates a high degree of artistic mastery, with delicate details that reveal the sculptor's skill. The representation combines the attributes of Greco-Roman divinities, which is characteristic of the religious syncretisms of the Imperial period. Despite its modest size, the sculpture exudes a strong symbolic presence.

Height 5.6 cm (without base). - 10.8 cm (with base).

Provenance Christie's, London, 2004. Former collection of Viscount Gery d'Hendecourt, who inherited it in the late 19th / early 20th century. Reputed to have come from Egypt, probably Alexandria.
