Superb hand-woven tapestry from Aubusson, from the Jean Picaud workshop, depicting a wolf hunt in a wooded landscape in the style of great classical verdure tapestries.
The scene features a wolf surrounded by a pack of dogs, treated with a remarkable sense of movement and dramaturgy.
The whole is punctuated by a play of bluish, green, ochre and beige foliage, a palette characteristic of 20th century Aubusson production.
The work is distinguished by the quality of its weaving visible on the reverse: regular density, diversity of wools, fineness of the gradations.
The cartoon takes up the decorative vocabulary of the great hunting tapestries of the 18th century, reinterpreted with sensitivity by the Aubusson workshops.
