Lefaucheux flintlock pistol, mid-19th century, made in Liège. The existence of an Eugène Lefaucheux arms factory in Liège in the years 1865/1873 is little known to the people of Liège: the ELG acceptance mark on a star in an oval and a letter under a crown which is the countermark of the controller in use from 1846 to 1877 are found.

The flintlock pistol is a type of mechanism formerly used in firearms, employed throughout the 18th century and reaching its peak during the Napoleonic era. Its advantages include being more reliable than a matchlock and more economical than a wheellock. However, misfires are frequent (approximately one in five shots).
