Biography:
Cécile Miguel, painter, Belgian collagist from Hainaut, lived in Provence after 1945 with her husband, the writer André Miguel. She exhibited in Lucerne in 1949 with Miró and Picasso, in Vallauris in 1951, in a group of painters who were friends of Picasso. In the 1950s, she presented her work in French and Belgian galleries. She frequents Pablo Picasso and his wife Françoise Gilot, René Char, Jean Paulhan and Jacques Prévert, who dedicates a poem to her. Back in Belgium (Ligny) in 1964, she voluntarily abandoned the commercial circuit but she never stopped painting, making numerous collages or writing several collections of poems. An exhibition has just been dedicated to him at the Marthe Donas Museum in Ittre in December 2019 "Cécile Miguel, a forgotten life", it consisted of forty pieces, a journey through the work of an artist unjustly forgotten: watercolors and drawings of Provence, tachist compositions, assemblies, psychoscopies, collages, compositions with threadlike characters and disproportionate eyes… An exhibition catalog has just been published and is available at the Marthe Donas museum.
