Odette COLLON "Pensive young woman" pastel on paper, 1991

Painter, watercolorist, pastellist. Pupil of F. Schirren (1942-1944) and Louis Ramah (1944-1947), who introduced her to the Brussels art scene. At the age of 20, she came into contact with the "Jeune Peinture Belge" group and was accepted as a member. She received a training that blended elements of Brabant Fauvism and more constructive art. As the youngest member of the "Jeune Peinture Belge", she took part in the group's most important exhibitions from 1947 onwards. From 1964 to 1966, she worked with M. Hastir and, from 1971 to 1974, again took classes with G. Mommaerts at the Académie d'Ixelles. After taking part in the "Jeune Peinture Belge" adventure between 1946 and 1948, Odette Collon moved towards an abstract universe, transforming it into a play of loosely-architected forms, inspired by the landscape or the mineral and vegetable elements of nature. The fluidity of her work allows Odette Collon to suggest rather than impose: an emotion, a sensation, an atmosphere, a memory recreated through voluptuous forms in the colors of water and earth. .
