PATRICE PLACEMAN ‘Sphynx & red ball' eglomised oil painting under & on plexiglass, futurist surrealist 1996
Eglomised painting (also known as fixed under glass), mixed technique in acrylic painted under Plexiglas, by the Belgian artist Patrice Placeman. Remarkable airbrush technique, painted on the back of the Plexiglas. A constructivist / futurist / optical work in the style of Victor Vasarely or Yvaral. Signed and dated lower right. Note some light reflections on the photographic plates, difficult to photograph...
Biography: Patrice Placeman was born in Brussels in 1949.
Education:
- 1963: Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Liège, Belgium.
- 1965: Centre des Arts décoratifs - Brussels, Belgium.
From 1975 to 1993, he lived between Brussels, Miami and Paris. He is regarded as a remarkable contemporary Optic Art ( Op'Art ) artist, achieving perfection in his work. He constructs a world for himself, a surrealist, futuristic and spatial universe, going so far as to replace the Humanoid with the Placemanoid (some of his works bear this name). Rejecting traditional techniques, he airbrushes imaginary scenes to capture our attention and imagination. He uses a technique known as ‘églomisé', a negative painting technique requiring great mastery. The artist used innovative materials and tools for his time, such as airbrushes and Plexiglas. Few of his works are available on the art market, but it won't be long before collectors start to take an interest! Numerous exhibitions to his credit throughout the world (list available).
