Virgin of the Rosary early 18th century Spain, Catalonia.
The Virgin comes from an imposing residence: Mas la Cau (or La Calm) in Sant Esteve d'en Bas (see photo of the residence, which is a well-known masia in Catalonia).
Beautiful baroque pleated movement, imposing removable crown, polychromy imitating brocade typical of Spanish sculptures
of the early 18th century (1690 to 1720).

The Virgin of the Rosary appeared to Saint Dominic in the 13th century and promised protection to those who followed the rosary.
Her feast day on 7 October commemorates the victory of the Battle of Lepanto, which united Spain and its allies to repel the Ottoman invaders.
This Virgin is particularly tall: 92 cm with the crown.
