Born in Ghent, Oscar Bonnevalle was a painter, draftsman, engraver, illustrator, decorator and creator of postage stamps. He was trained at the Ghent Academy at Verdegem and Coddron and at the Ghent Trades School at H. Verbaere. He drew his inspiration from Flemish folklore, history, popular Ghent figures and the female nude. Some works bathe in an atmosphere of magical realism. He was also a designer of theater sets.
