'Robot’ chewing gum dispenser, Italy 1960s
Very rare Italian chewing gum dispenser from the 60s. This one is my favourite, it's a very rare robot. It has a slot for 10 lira coins. You insert the coin and move the left arm downwards. It has its original turquoise painted stand, which I didn't take a photo of, about 110cm high. He's weighted down with a heavy cubic block at the base. This little guy has everything for robot lovers and contemporary art collectors. His innocent minimal face is simply fantastic. I don't know what it is about them that moves me, perhaps the discrepancy between the clattering metal shapes and their innocent humanoid expression. When you think that at the same time our vending machines consisted of simple cubic containers, the Italians were creating magnificent robots. What an aesthetic people!
