On request
Charles-Martial Baury, born in Paris in 1827, son of a porcelain manufacturer, made his debut at the 1848 Salon after studying with François Rude. He took part in the 1855 Universal Exhibition, exhibiting for the last time in 1868. Baury is known for his busts and statues, notably of personalities such as M. Faure and Mlle Lefèbvre. He died in Choisy-le-Roi in 1879. This sculture depicts a female figure whose face is partially covered by a veil, adding mystery and an aura of grace to the sculpture.
