Charles DELPORTE ‘Comme une fée’ painting oil on panel, 1981
DELPORTE, Charles (Marcinelle, 1928)
Painter, draughtsman, sculptor, poet, composer. Self-taught.
He dabbles in the figurative and the abstract in his colourful, undulating, tortuous and fluid works. His works are symbolist and poetic. He is inspired by man and the cosmos. His work is classified according to different themes: initially realist, it is described as "genetic" from 1955 and as "geophysical" or "nuclear" from 1970. The press wrote of his sculptures: "C.D. has undoubtedly found in sculpture an outlet for his impatience. It would even seem that all his painting has done nothing more than prepare him for the magic-all the momentum-that three-dimensional art literally imposes on him. Since this artist has largely developed this plastic contribution in his work, he appears like a dowser who has discovered a new fountain of youth". (A. Viray, 1979) Mentioned in "Artistes et Galeries 2000 (4e édition)", BAS I and in "Deux Siècles de Signatures d'Artistes de Belgique".
