"Buste de Jeune fille aux roses" bronze sculpture, published by the compagnie des bronzes in Brussels
Superb little bronze head in the style of Carrier-Belleuse or Rodin and Leopold Harzè. It is difficult to give an attribution. The condition is good, with a few stains on the golden patina. 33cm base.
Founded on July 6, 18541, the Compagnie des bronzes specialized in the working of non-ferrous metals.
Originally, it was a small family limited partnership, Corman et Cie. In 1859, it became a limited company under the name "Compagnie pour la fabrication du Zinc et du Bronze et des appareils d'éclairage", commercially known as Cie des Bronzes de Bruxelles2.
In 1862, it set up part of its workshops on rue Ransfort in Molenbeek, close to the Charleroi canal, which had been in operation since 18323.
Originally specializing in the manufacture and installation of public lighting fixtures, from 1870 onwards the company turned its attention to the casting of works of art and monumental bronzes.
This latter activity earned the company an international reputation, and some of its creations can be found all over the world. Many important Brussels monuments were cast in her workshops, including the statues of Petit Sablon, the equestrian statues of Leopold II (Place du Trône) and Albert I (Mont des Arts), the monumental doors of the Palais de Justice and the monument to Éverard t'Serclaes near the Grand-Place.
